Instructor: Janie Lancaster, San Diego, Ca. published children's author, poet, nationally certified interpreter for hearing impaired, teacher.  Author of a middle grade novel Julie & The Lost Fairy Tale. This 15 chapter story is also currently running in Newspapers In Education across the country.

Theme:  Mrs. Lancaster would use discussion to explain her approach and hands on activities to demonstrate how teachers can help their students develop the right side of the brain, the creative side and, ultimately, develop skills in areas that have been long dormant. This workshop will renew interest for those who choose to teach the  "whole child".  From her own extensive research on traumatized children and her personal experience she believes: "A Mind Once Stretched By A New Idea Never Returns To Its Original Position".

TEACHERS WILL TAKE HOME a variety of handouts.

They will learn.

  •       What happens inside the mind of a traumatized child?
  •       How to reach children who have been traumatized?
  •    What tools we have available to help us open a child's mind.

First published as a serial story in the newspapers, "Julie & The Lost Fairy Tale" is now compiled into the form of a novel for children and young adults. An original and captivating tale, "Julie & The Lost Fairy Tale" follows the relationship between Julie, her grandmother, and a chest she's forbidden to open. Highly recommended for community library young adult fiction collections.
