Creative Writing and Trauma

We live in a world where trauma is an every day occurrence for many of our children. They sit in classrooms, unreachable and at times unteachable. I know... I was one of them.

One very effective way to help children who are  victims of trauma is  to teach them how to write or draw their feelings. I know, because writing my books Julie & The Lost Fairy Tale and Emily/Out of My Mother's Darkness has played a part in my own healing process.

Children who are victims of trauma need to...

Reading and writing has power to help our children to understand and deal with difficult circumstances and emotions.

I would love to meet with your children or teachers to share with you how creative writing gave voice to a silenced child.

The Fantasy/SciFi Shelf

First published as a serial story in the newspapers, "Julie & The Lost Fairy Tale" is now compiled into the form of a novel for children and young adults. An original and captivating tale, "Julie & The Lost Fairy Tale" follows the relationship between Julie, her grandmother, and a chest she's forbidden to open. Highly recommended for community library young adult fiction collections.
